I learned the most important lesson you’ll ever learn here in Dublin.
How to pour your OWN.PINT.OF.GUINNESS.
Yep, there are six steps to this art, and we had the privilege of learning these steps at the Guinness factory today.
After class and a very important “story session” about the night before, the six-pack decided to be productive and do some sight-seeing. We hopped on the #10 bus into town and then walked about 15 minutes to Guinness.
The factory was AWESOME.
A Guinness shaped glass is constructed in the center of the building, running through the seven stories of exhibits. Each floor shows you how the beer is made and the history behind the Guinness family.
Now.
Onto the important part- how to pour the perfect pint of Guinness!
Step #1- Hold the glass firmly on the display area and start pouring.
Step #2- Tilt the glass at a 45 degree angles.
Step #3- Allow it to fill until it reaches the letters at the top.
Step #4- Stop pouring and let it sit for a minute.
Step #5- Continue to pour to the brim by sending the spout the opposite direction!
Step #6- Let the beer sit and the foam settle.
Looks easy, right? NO. Guinness pouring is an art and isn’t for the faint of heart.
From there we explore the top deck, featuring a 360 degree bar. It moves around so you get an amazing areal view of the city.
Next stop- Guinness gift shop! This was the ONLY place I figure I could find Boo and Brandon a gift they’d actually like from Ireland, so lots of shopping was done!
From there we headed back for our first Thursday night in Temple Bar area. The entire group got together for a night of madness…or so we thought? Apparently Thursdays are not like your typical Thursday in Austin. The streets were pretty dead and Irish folks kept telling us that “it’s a work day tomorrow.” We hopped around a bit, just trying to find a place that looked packed.
FORTUNATELY we wondered across a karaoke bar, and the night went from terrible to terrific in seconds.
Yes. I got on that mic and belted “Living on a Prayer” for all the Texas girls and laughing locals in the area. They even invited me back for another round next week!
And that, my friends, is how you do a Thursday night in Dublin.
Texas Fight.
